GST raid at Rana Steels turns violent in Muzaffarnagar: GST officials mistreated, vehicles damaged, three arrested
Muzaffarnagar (The Uttam Hindu): In Muzaffarnagar, a raid was conducted at Rana Steels by a GST team from Meerut, during which GST officials were mistreated, and their vehicles were vandalized. In connection with the incident, three members of the Rana family, including two women, were taken into custody by the police. On Thursday, the GST team from Meerut carried out a raid on Rana Steels, located in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. During the raid, the Rana family reportedly misbehaved with the officials and damaged their vehicles.
After receiving information, the SP City arrived at the scene with a heavy police force and managed to calm down the people causing the disturbance. According to reports, the police arrested two daughters of the Rana family, Sajia and Ayesha, who are linked to former BSP MLA Shah Nawaz Rana and former MP from Muzaffarnagar, Qadir Rana.
Rana Steels is owned by the politically influential Rana family from Muzaffarnagar. The raid was led by Shreya Gupta, the Deputy Director of the GST team from Meerut. During the operation, the Rana family and their staff allegedly used foul language and engaged in misbehavior, causing damage to the GST team’s vehicle. Several videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, showing Shah Nawaz Rana and others behaving inappropriately with the officials.
SP City Satyanarayan Prajapati stated that during the raid, the GST team was mistreated, their vehicle was pelted with stones, and there was physical confrontation with the officials. A case has been filed at Civil Lines police station under relevant sections due to the stone pelting by the crowd. Shah Nawaz Rana and other female suspects are currently in police custody. Investigations are underway, including a review of CCTV footage, to identify the individuals responsible for the incidents during the raid.
