Government set to crack down on vulgar content by social media Influencers
Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News)- The central government will not tolerate vulgarity in the name of comedy and full preparations have been made to take strict action for this. After the strict comments of the Supreme Court on Ranveer Allahabadia's obscene comment, the central government is preparing to bring a code of conduct for social media influencers. Influencers with 5 to 50 lakh followers will have to follow this, so that in future the sentiments of people across the country are not hurt by shows like India's Got Latent, along with this, it will also be mandatory for influencers to give rating of content.
Recently, a notice issued by the Central Government said, "Complaints have been received from MPs, various statutory organizations and the general public regarding the dissemination of obscene, vulgar and indecent content on OTT platforms and social media. Under the code of ethics, it is not allowed to publish any such content on OTT platforms, which is prohibited under the law."
According to sources, action will be taken under the existing criminal law and special law applicable in the country in case of violation of the Code of Conduct. These laws have provisions for fines and punishment. For influencers with turnover below Rs 5 lakh, warning on the first offence, fine on the second and legal action on the third offence is being considered.
