Good News: Government Transfers ₹2,500 to Women's Bank Accounts
Ranchi (The Uttam Hindu): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday transferred ₹2,500 each to the bank accounts of over 56 lakh women under the 'Maiyan Samman Yojana' for the December installment. The transfer, amounting to ₹1,415.44 crore, was carried out in a grand event held at the Namkum Khojatoli Ground in Ranchi, where approximately 200,000 women from across the state were present.
While addressing the women, CM Soren stated, "This amount is a significant step toward making you financially self-reliant. We are very happy to fulfill the promise we made before the elections." The Chief Minister activated the transfer by pressing a button, transferring a total of ₹1,415 crore, 44 lakh, 77 thousand, and 500 to the bank accounts of 56,61,791 women in the state. When the scheme was launched five months ago, women were receiving ₹1,000 per month, but just before the elections, the government approved an increase to ₹2,500 per month.
CM Soren emphasized, "The overall development of the country and the state cannot be achieved unless women and men walk together, shoulder to shoulder. Keeping this in mind, we have taken this step to empower women." He further criticized previous governments, saying they spoke about women empowerment but failed to take concrete actions. "When we started giving ₹1,000 per month to women, we were mocked. When we promised to increase the amount to ₹2,500, our opponents spread misinformation, questioning how the government would manage such a large sum. Today, we have answered them," he added.
The Chief Minister also took a dig at the opposition, stating, "We are not like those who backtrack on their promises or mislead people with lies." He encouraged women to contribute to the state's development, saying, "Your small savings will help ensure a better future for your children." He also mentioned that the funds from the 'Maiyan Samman' scheme could be used by women to address their own and their children's nutritional needs.
CM Soren expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support women showed during the elections, stating, "You have blessed us and helped form our government. Now, it is our responsibility to make you self-reliant and prosperous." The event was also attended by State Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Minister Chhamra Linda, MLA Kalpana Soren, and several other prominent leaders.
