Khanouri (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing farmers' protest, driven by several demands including the implementation of MSP (Minimum Support Price), saw a significant development on Saturday. A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, led by Joint Secretary Priya Ranjan, along with senior officers from the Punjab Police, visited farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike at the Khanouri border for the past 55 days.

During the visit, the officials inquired about Dallewal’s health, which has been deteriorating with each passing day. However, after a brief interaction, Dallewal, citing his fragile health condition, withdrew from further discussions with the officials and urged other farmer leaders to engage in talks with them. Farmer leaders Kaka Singh Kotda, Abhimanyu Kohad, and others held a separate meeting with the officials. In a press conference that followed, they revealed that the central government had proposed a solution to address the farmers' demands. Though details of the proposal were not disclosed, farmers expressed hope that the government might consider their demands, paving the way for Dallewal to end his hunger strike.

The ongoing hunger strike by Dallewal has raised concerns over his health, with his condition worsening daily. Farmers are now looking to the government’s proposal with renewed hope that it may lead to a resolution of the ongoing protests.
