BJP's Punjab dilemma: The quest for a winning poster boy

Update: 2025-02-13 06:22 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Jalandhar (Vikas Sharma): Punjab BJP is also looking very happy with the record-breaking victory of BJP after 27 years in Delhi Assembly elections and BJP leaders are claiming every day to make Punjab AAP-free in 2027. Now what is the truth of these claims will be clear when the assembly elections are held, but if Punjab BJP has to win the next Punjab Assembly elections (2027), then it will have to focus on facts and preparation instead of talks. By the way, political analysts clearly say that Punjab BJP every time celebrates by dancing and singing on the victory of BJP in any state i.e. other's baraat, but it has happened very rarely that it has been successful in distributing laddus on its own baraat i.e. its victory in Punjab. By the way, whenever the senior leaders of BJP are asked why the party is not succeeding in Punjab, the first answer is that we are still suffering the consequences of fulfilling the alliance dharma with Akali Dal. However, after the alliance broke, BJP contested Lok Sabha elections, assembly by-elections in Punjab but did not get victory. Although there was a small victory in the municipal elections, but in many wards the winning candidates went to another party.

BJP needs a poster boy in Punjab, instead of forming an alliance with anyone, the state unit of the party will have to brainstorm: This is also a matter of concern for the BJP that no candidate wins at all, and if someone wins, he goes to another party after winning. Now in these circumstances, political analysts and well-wishers of the BJP are of the opinion that if the BJP has to succeed in Punjab, then it will have to find such a poster boy in Punjab whose identity can help the party taste victory. This poster boy can be anyone, local, regional or national. According to geographical and social conditions, Punjab is divided into Malwa, Majha and Doaba. Therefore, if the BJP is not able to find a big face out of 117 assembly seats, then one face each can be selected from Malwa, Majha and Doaba and brought forward. It may be easy for the party to choose a Hindu Dalit face in Doaba, a Sikh face in Malwa and a Hindu or Sikh face in Majha.

Big question: Why does Punjab BJP not play on the front foot on the issue of Hindutva in the state?

The Hindu society of Punjab also says in hushed tones that why does the BJP, which raises the flag of Hindutva and Sanatan Dharma in the entire country, remain silent on the issues of Hindutva in Punjab. It is rarely seen that the BJP leaders of Punjab have openly come out on the streets on issues related to Hinduism in Punjab, although they do become statement givers many times. Overall, if the BJP has to choose the path of victory in Punjab, then it will have to prepare for the 2027 assembly elections with hard work and aggressive strategy. Especially if the BJP gets the support of Punjabi Hindus, it will be like icing on the cake.
