Update: 2025-01-02 10:15 GMT

A significant announcement is anticipated in Punjab on January 14, aligning with the Makar Sankranti festival. Reports indicate that a new Sikh-focused political party may be unveiled on this date. The party is being established under the leadership of Sarabjit Singh, the Faridkot MP and Amritpal Singh, the Khamur Sahib MP, who is currently detained in Dibrugarh jail. Sources reveal that the leaders have urged their supporters to assemble at the Shri Muktsar Sahib Mela on Makar Sankranti to mark the formation of the new party.

Both MPs had triumphed in the previous Lok Sabha elections as independent candidates, winning by a considerable margin. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has experienced continuous setbacks in the last three elections. Given this scenario, the new Sikh-focused party intends to create a space for itself amid the diminishing influence of the Akali Dal. Sarabjit Singh has previously made it clear that his goal is to address the issues of Sikhs and Punjabis by establishing a new political party in Punjab.

Close sources to Sarabjit Singh indicate that both MPs have invited their supporters as well as those aligned with Sikh ideologies, to join the Makar Sankranti celebrations at Shri Muktsar Sahib on January 14, where the official launch of the new party is expected to take place. Additionally, a poster about this event has gone viral.
