Alert! Stormy Winds, Rain, and Snowfall Warning in 11 States, Know the Weather Forecast for the Next 5 Days
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for 11 states, warning of stormy winds, rain, and snowfall. The weather is expected to remain adverse in Delhi, Noida, and surrounding areas until December 31. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir are on alert for snowfall and cold winds. Until December 30, heavy weather changes are being observed across the country.
Currently, there is significant weather fluctuation across India, with snowfall in the hill states and rain continuing in the plains. On Friday, heavy rain occurred in Delhi and nearby areas, increasing the cold. Delhi-NCR recorded 9.1 mm of rainfall in December, the highest in 15 years, which caused the maximum temperature to drop to 14°C and the minimum to 11°C.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the weather has taken a turn, with rainfall in the plains and heavy snowfall in the mountainous regions, affecting road traffic. More than 2,000 vehicles are stuck on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, and the temperature in the Zoji La Pass has dropped to -25°C, making the situation even more difficult.
Weather Forecast for the Next 5 Days
The IMD has issued weather warnings for the next five days, with a specific Orange Alert for Delhi and Noida until December 31, indicating a strong possibility of heavy rain and storms in these areas. Additionally, rain is expected in Central and North India on Saturday and Sunday, which will cause temperatures to drop further. The IMD has also issued alerts for storms, dust storms, and hail in 11 states. Snowfall is forecasted in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. These regions are expected to experience cold winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 km/h, which will intensify the chill. Heavy snowfall in these hilly areas could disrupt daily life.

According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance has become active in northern Pakistan and its surrounding areas, leading to a weather change over the Indian subcontinent. As a result, rain, storms, and snowfall are predicted across many parts of India. Due to this disturbance, temperature drops are likely in northern Chhattisgarh, with dust storms and lightning possible in Central and Northwest India. Rain and snowfall are also expected in the western Himalayan regions.

A new Western Disturbance could affect the western Himalayan region starting January 1, bringing light rain and snowfall on January 1 and 2, potentially altering the weather in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Cold Wave and Fog Alert
The IMD has predicted a cold wave in parts of Himachal Pradesh from December 29 to 31. December 28 may witness the coldest day in some areas of Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, "cold day" conditions are expected in parts of Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Haryana on December 28. Dense fog is also likely to affect visibility in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between December 29 and 30. These conditions may cause travel disruptions. Some areas in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram may experience frost.
New Western Disturbance
The IMD has forecasted the arrival of a new Western Disturbance starting January 1, which will bring light rain and snowfall to the western Himalayan region. This disturbance will lead to a change in weather conditions in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 1 and 2.
