12 Naxalites Killed in Fierce Bijapur Clash: Ongoing Operation Continues to Uncover Details

Bijapur (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant operation on Thursday, security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district engaged in a fierce encounter with Naxalites, resulting in the deaths of 12 insurgents. A senior police officer reported that the gunfight began around 9 a.m. in the dense forests of South Bijapur when a joint team of security personnel launched an anti-Naxal operation. The firing continued intermittently until late evening. Initial reports confirmed that 12 Naxalites were killed and further details are awaited as search operations in the area are still ongoing.

The police officer added that no security personnel were injured in the operation. So far this month, 26 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters across the state. Earlier, on January 12 five Naxalites, including two women were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in the Maddei area of Bijapur district. Last year, security forces in the state killed 219 Naxalites in various encounters.

Bijapur's Superintendent of Police, Jitendra Yadav confirmed that five Naxalites were killed in a separate encounter with security forces on Sunday. The police recovered the bodies of two female Naxalites and three male Naxalites. Additionally, several automatic weapons, explosives and other items were found in the forests of the district's national park area.
