Haryana Road Accident: Five Casualties and One Injured
Panipat (The Uttam Hindu): At least five people were killed and one received serious injuries when a runaway truck rammed into pedestrians on the elevated highway in Panipat, Haryana, Thursday night.
The six persons were run over by the truck at three different places when it crossed the elevated highway from the wrong side, police officers said.
The Panipat police immediately rushed the injured to the civil hospital after getting the alert, and reports say the condition of the injured is stated to be critical. The truck driver has been arrested and investigations are going on. According to the sources, the truck driver took the wrong entrance onto the elevated highway, where he first hit two persons who were sitting on a motorcycle traveling from Siwah Bridge.
Then, the truck rammed two more motorcyclists on Malik Petrol Pump. Sources report that the third incident also occurred in front of Gurudwara where two more pedestrians suffered injuries.
Reports say four persons died on the spot while one injured person also breathed his last soon after being admitted to hospital. Another injured has been referred to Rohtak PGI for further treatment. Following the accident, a traffic jam was seen at highway due to which police had to clear it.
According to reports, the truck went out of control and did not even halt after the first impacts but rather hit into a Bolero car significantly damaging it. The vehicle finally came to rest at the railing near Tehsil Camp after crashing.
