'Emergency' Trailer Released; Film Arrives January 17 Without Controversial Scenes

Update: 2025-01-06 05:58 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Kangana Ranaut’s film *Emergency* is set to release on January 17 after receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification nearly three months ago. Kangana shared the film's trailer on her social media platforms reigniting discussions about the much-anticipated political drama.

Initially scheduled for release on September 6 the film faced delays due to objections raised by Punjab’s independent MP and Khalistan supporter Sarbjit Singh Khalsa. The controversy centered around scenes depicting Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and references to Khalistan, which Khalsa claimed portrayed Sikhs in a negative light. Following these objections, the contentious scenes were removed from the film.

Khalsa had previously alleged that the film presented Sikhs as separatists or terrorists, potentially disturbing societal harmony and law and order. He labeled the film as a “psychological attack” and urged the government to prevent the spread of anti-Sikh sentiments. With the changes implemented, *Emergency* is now ready to make its mark on the big screen.
