New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, along with 11 other individuals, are under investigation in a case involving a multi-level marketing (MLM) scam in Haryana. The allegations, detailed in an FIR filed on January 22 at the Murthal police station in Sonipat, claim that the actors, who were brand ambassadors for the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society, played a role in defrauding investors through false promises of lucrative returns on financial schemes.

The society, operating since 2016 under the Multi-State Cooperative Society Act, is accused of using deceptive tactics to lure investors, including holding seminars in luxury hotels where attendees were assured of safe, profitable investments. However, the society is alleged to have functioned primarily as an MLM operation, with agents incentivized to recruit new investors rather than focus on legitimate business activities.

The FIR includes multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and fraudulent transfer of property. Investigators are examining the extent of Talpade and Nath’s involvement in the operation. Ajeet Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police in Murthal, emphasized that while the primary investigation targets the society itself, the actors' roles in the scheme are being thoroughly reviewed.

The case has sparked broader discussions about celebrity involvement in endorsing financial products, as authorities continue to probe the situation and gather more details about the actors' participation and the society's activities.
