Delhi Elections 2025: Congress’s Big Push for Women, ₹2,500 a Month under ‘Pyari Didi’ Scheme!

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the February 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress party has announced a significant pre-poll promise aimed at women voters in the national capital. If Congress wins the election, it will provide ₹2,500 per month to women under the 'Pyari Didi' scheme, which is modeled after similar successful initiatives in Karnataka.

Karnataka’s Deputy CM, DK Shivakumar, made the announcement expressing confidence that Congress will form the next government in Delhi. He emphasized that the ₹2,500 monthly benefit for women would be implemented in the very first cabinet meeting, similar to how the scheme was rolled out in Karnataka. With women constituting a substantial portion of Delhi's electorate, this move is a strategic effort by Congress to garner their support ahead of the assembly polls. As of now, there are about 71 lakh women among the total 1.54 crore voters in Delhi.

In response, Arvind Kejriwal the AAP national chief, has also announced an increase in the monthly stipend for women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, raising it from ₹1,000 to ₹2,100. The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place in February, although the exact dates have yet to be announced by the Election Commission. The current Delhi assembly term ends on February 23, 2025. The AAP, which has been in power since 2015, aims to secure a third consecutive term. The last Congress-led government in Delhi was under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit until December 2013, after which Congress supported Arvind Kejriwal’s short-lived 49-day government.
