Arvind Kejriwal Urges Election Commission to Bar Parvesh Verma from Delhi Election, Calls for House Raid

Update: 2025-01-09 11:50 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly criticized his rival, Parvesh Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, 2025. Kejriwal today met with senior officials from the Election Commission, urging them to disqualify Verma from contesting the election. Kejriwal accused Verma of corrupt practices, including the "open distribution of money" and tampering with voter rolls by adding fraudulent voters.

Kejriwal's allegations also include claims that thousands of applications for voter cancellations have been submitted fraudulently. He highlighted that between December 15 and January 7, around 5,500 applications for vote cancellations were filed, which he believes are part of a larger scheme to generate fake votes. Kejriwal has called for a raid on Verma's residence to investigate the matter further.

In response to these accusations, Parvesh Verma defended his campaign, dismissing Kejriwal's allegations as baseless and attributing them to Kejriwal's nervousness. Verma suggested that Kejriwal may not contest the election from the New Delhi constituency due to concerns over losing. He explained that voter deletions in the constituency are commonplace due to the transient nature of government employees living there. Both candidates are preparing for a highly competitive election. Kejriwal is focusing on issues related to governance and community welfare, while Verma has launched initiatives such as the "Har Ghar Naukari" campaign to provide job opportunities in his constituency. The political tension continues to rise as both parties gear up for what is expected to be a tight race. The counting of votes is scheduled for February 8, 2025.
