Ration Card Warning: Fix Errors by this Date or Get Removed
Sitapur (The Uttam Hindu) : There are 31.44 lakh units in 7,72,556 ration cards in the district. The process of getting e-KYC done for these units has been going on since last year. So far, 24.33 lakh units have been verified. The government has extended its date several times. Even after this, there are 7 lakh 10 thousand such units whose e-KYC has not been done yet. If e-KYC of these units is not done by 30th April, then the name will be automatically deleted from the card. Ration was being lifted from many such units of ration cards where people had died. There were also names of girls who were married. Family members of government employees were also lifting ration free of cost. As per the government system, a person holding a unit registered in the ration card used to lift ration by putting his thumb impression on the machine.
After this, the government decided to get all the units verified so that fake units could be removed. The government had given instructions regarding this last year. Instructions were given for e-KYC by October. Since a large number of units remained, the government had set the deadline as 31 December. Even after this, verification of many units remained pending. Then the government extended the time till 30 April. E-KYC and Aadhar seeding can be done through e-pass machine at any ration shop. This facility will be available till April 30. The objective of unit verification was to ensure transparency in ration distribution, improve the ration distribution system, ensure that ration reaches the right and genuine person, availability of ration to the needy, and removal of wrong units.
