Tragic Accident: 8 Dead, 10 Injured as Fruit-Laden Truck Plunges Into Ditch
Yellapu (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic road accident occurred on National Highway 63 (NH-63) in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka this morning. A truck loaded with vegetables and fruits going from Savanur to Kumta market fell into a ditch between Arabail and Gullapura near Yellapur, killing 8 people on the spot, while 10 were seriously injured.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 5:30 am when the truck driver lost control while attempting to give way to another vehicle. As a result, the truck veered off the road to the left and fell into a ditch about 50 metres deep. There were over 30 people in the truck, mostly vegetable vendors who were going to the market to sell their produce.
As soon as the accident was reported, local police and emergency response teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. The injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals, where the condition of some is said to be critical. According to Karwar Superintendent of Police Narayan M, the death toll was initially reported to be 8.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, including inspecting the condition of the truck and road infrastructure. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the region.
