Tragedy in NYC: Tourist Helicopter Crash Claims Lives of Siemens Executive and Family

New York (The Uttam Hindu): A helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York City, USA on Thursday, killing six people, including three children. The mayor of New York City gave this tragic information to CNN. The deceased include the helicopter pilot and an entire family from Spain.

Siemens Spain CEO dies

According to CNN's report, the accident happened in the afternoon. The Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter took off from Manhattan. After taking off, the helicopter circled the Statue of Liberty and then headed north along the Hudson River towards the George Washington Bridge.

Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the names of those killed in the crash. However, according to a report in the New York Post, the plane was carrying Agustin Escobar, chairman and CEO of Spain-based Siemens, his wife and their three children.

Helicopter crashes into river near New Jersey

According to reports, after heading towards the George Washington Bridge, the helicopter turned south and crashed into the Hudson River near New Jersey.

Police issued advisory

After this accident, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has issued an advisory. It says that the number of emergency vehicles will increase around the accident site, which may cause traffic delays.

Investigation continues, weather was bad

According to CNN, the weather was bad at the time of the accident. The sky was cloudy, the wind was 10 to 15 miles per hour, and gusts were reaching 25 miles per hour. Although visibility was good, light rain was also expected in the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed the incident and said it is working closely with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The NTSB will lead the investigation into the cause of the accident.
