Retired Judge in Haryana Ends Life by Jumping in Front of Train; Suicide Note Found

Haryana (The Uttam Hindu): A retired judge in Kurukshetra, Haryana identified as 78-year-old Ravindra Kumar Kashyap ended his life by jumping in front of the Vande Bharat train. His body was discovered near the Shahbad Markanda railway station lying next to the tracks. Kashyap, a resident of Sector 27 in Panchkula had left home for a morning walk before the incident.

The train driver alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) about the incident. Initially, no body was found but after further investigation and a search near railway pillar 178 the police located Kashyap’s body in a severely damaged state.

Suicide Note Found

When the railway police searched the body they found a suicide note in the deceased’s pocket. Written in English, the note stated, "I am committing suicide of my own free will. No one has any hand in this." The note also included his name, home address and a phone number which the police used to inform the family.

Family’s Account

According to his younger son, Nipun Kashyap the family celebrated his mother Sarla Kashyap’s birthday the night before the tragic incident. On Thursday morning, Ravindra Kumar followed his routine and left home for a walk around 8 am but did not return. After waiting the family grew concerned and began searching for him. When their search yielded no results they posted a missing person report on social media. The family received devastating news from the GRP on Friday morning about his death.

Police Investigation

SI Kamal Kumar from Shahbad Railway Police confirmed that the train driver had reported the incident on Thursday-Friday night. After being guided to the specific location near the tracks the police found the body. The reason for the retired judge’s decision to take his own life remains unclear. After a postmortem, the body was handed over to the family for final rites. The family has expressed shock and grief stating they were unaware of any reasons that could have led to this tragic step.
