Shackled and Surrounded: First Image of Tahawwur Rana in NIA Custody Surfaces
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana was brought to India after his extradition from the US. US marshals handed him over to Indian Foreign Ministry officials in the Central District of California. During this time, Rana was handcuffed and chained on his waist. His face is not visible in the pictures released by the US Justice Department because the picture is taken from behind.
The NIA arrested Rana at the Delhi airport and he was brought to Delhi by a special plane. After this, he was produced in the NIA special court at Patiala House Court, where the court sent him to 18 days of NIA custody.
Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin and has been wanted in India in connection with the 26/11 attacks. According to a chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police in 2023, he was staying at a hotel in Powai and was seen discussing busy areas of south Mumbai with a witness. These same places—the Taj Hotel, the Oberoi, Leopold Cafe, Chabad House and CST station—were later attacked by Pakistani terrorists, killing 166 people.
