Samay Raina Gets Second Summons in Ranveer Controversy, Called by Cyber Cell on Feb 17
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Maharashtra Cyber Cell has issued a second summons to comedian Samay Raina in connection with the objectionable comment made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia in an episode of the show 'India's Got Talent'. This summons has been sent to the show's producer, host and comedian Samay Raina, asking him to appear before the investigating officers on February 17.
The summons comes after one issued earlier and comes amid the ongoing controversy over comments made during an episode of the talent show. Raina's legal representative had informed the cyber cell on Wednesday that the comedian is currently in the United States and his return is not expected until March 17. Adding to the mystery, Raina recently announced via social media that he has deleted all his video content.
Raina is currently busy on a tour of the US and Canada, which began in Dallas on February 6 and was scheduled to end in Chicago on March 2. However, the issuance of this summons has put a question mark on his tour, and he will likely have to cancel his remaining schedule and return to India.
Failure to comply with the summons and appear before the authorities, or failure to obtain legal relief from the court, could result in arrest warrant proceedings being initiated against Raina.
In a related development, the Assam Police has also issued summons to YouTubers Ranveer Allahabadia and Ashish Chanchlani. According to a senior Assam Police official, summons have also been issued to Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija and Samay Raina, who were all allegedly present during the controversial episode. The Mumbai Police has already questioned Apoorva Makhija in connection with the case.
The current situation leaves limited options for Raina, which mainly include cutting short his international tour to comply with the summons or seeking legal intervention to avoid immediate return and potential legal consequences.
