Renowned Actor Passes Away at 66, CM Majhi Expresses Grief
Bhubaneswar (The Uttam Hindu): Famous Odia actor Uttam Mohanty died on Thursday night during treatment at a hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He breathed his last at the age of 66. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi condoled the death of the veteran Ollywood actor and called it a big loss for the cinema world.
On Friday night, Chief Minister Majhi expressed condolences and shared a post on his X handle and wrote, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Odisha's popular actor Uttam Mohanty. His demise has caused a great loss to the Odia art world. The mark he has left in the Odia cinema world will always remain alive in the hearts of the audience. I pray for the peace of his soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
As a mark of respect, the Chief Minister has directed that Uttam Mohanty be cremated with state honours. CM Majhi prayed for the peace of the departed soul and also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. Majhi spoke to Mohanty's son Babushan over the phone and assured him that the state government will help in bringing Mohanty's body from Delhi to Bhubaneswar.
Let us tell you, Mohanty was suffering from liver related disease. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital on 8 February, where he was undergoing treatment. His son Babushan shared the information about his death late on Thursday night.
Looking at Mohanty's acting career, he has worked in more than 135 Odia films as well as some television shows. Apart from this, he has also acted in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi film 'Naya Zahar'.
He was born and brought up in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district. Mohanty was inclined towards acting since his college days. Uttam Mohanty is the only star of Odia cinema who remained at the top for almost two decades and dominated the Odia film industry in the 80s and 90s. He was married to Odia actress Aparajita Mohanty
