Punjab: Doctor Shot Dead in Scuffle, Fleeing Thief Crushed by Car After Owner Spots Them on CCTV

Kapurthala (The Uttam Hindu): In a tragic incident in Kapurthala, Punjab a doctor lost his life during a scuffle with thieves who had broken into his clinic on Sunday night. One thief was killed in a road accident while fleeing the scene, while the second managed to escape.

The incident occurred in Bhanolanga village of Sultanpur Lodhi. Dr. Gurcharan Singh, the operator of Charan Medical Store and Clinic had installed CCTV cameras due to repeated thefts. On Sunday night, he noticed two suspicious individuals attempting to break the shutter of his clinic on the CCTV feed. He immediately informed his son and the two rushed to the clinic to confront the thieves.

During the scuffle, Dr. Singh retrieved his licensed double-barreled gun. In the tussle, the gun discharged and Dr. Singh was fatally shot. After the incident, the thieves fled the scene. One thief, identified as Krishna Kumar (26) of Kandola, Jalandhar was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died on the spot. The second thief escaped abandoning his partner.

Mothanwala police post in-charge Sarabjit Singh and his team arrived at the scene taking both bodies into custody for post-mortem. DSP Gurmeet Singh confirmed that the incident occurred between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. and stated that efforts are underway to identify the fleeing thief using nearby CCTV footage. Appropriate action will follow based on the ongoing investigation.
