Pollution Control Measures: Delhi Government Cancels Registration of 55 Lakh Vehicles
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the increasing pollution, the Delhi government has prepared to crack down on old vehicles. The government has canceled the registration of vehicles older than 15 years. There are more than 55 lakh vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi.
According to the information released by the Transport Department, from 2024, the registration of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol/CNG vehicles older than 15 years has been canceled in Delhi. These vehicles also include trucks, cabs, cars, motorcycles and auto rickshaws. Parking of these vehicles in public places has been completely banned. This also includes space outside the house. At the same time, these old vehicles will not even get petrol and diesel at the fuel station. To implement this new policy, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras have been installed at 477 fuel stations in Delhi. If these old vehicles are seen running or parked in public places in Delhi, they can be confiscated. Apart from this, a fine of 5 thousand or 10 thousand rupees can also be imposed.
Let us tell you that the government has taken this decision keeping in mind reasons like environmental protection, reduction in traffic jams, and road safety. Transport Department, Delhi Traffic Police, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Cantonment Board can seize such vehicles.
