Political Tectonic Shift: 8 AAP MLAs Resign, Switch Allegiance to BJP
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, all eight legislators who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The MLAs were inducted into the BJP in the presence of BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda and Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.
The eight AAP MLAs who resigned are Bhavna Gaud (Palam), BS June (Bijwasan), Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar), Madanlal (Kasturba Nagar), Rajesh Rishi (Janakpuri), Rohit Mehrauliya (Trilokpuri), Naresh Yadav (Maharoli), and Girish Soni (Madi Pur). The formal induction ceremony took place on Saturday.
Baijayant Panda, addressing the media, called the day historic, stating, "Just days before the Delhi elections, so many leaders have freed themselves from AAP, and now it’s Delhi’s turn to be liberated." He criticized AAP for making false promises over the last decade and expressed confidence that these leaders joined the BJP, trusting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Girish Soni, one of the resigning MLAs, expressed his dissatisfaction with AAP's internal activities, saying, "The ongoing activities within AAP have raised several questions. Today, I am resigning from all responsibilities and from the primary membership of the party." This development adds a new dimension to Delhi's political landscape, with AAP losing key members just ahead of the elections.
