Viral Watch: Social Media Outrage: FIR Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina Over Vulgar Talk
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A police complaint has been filed in Mumbai against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija (known as 'Rebel Kid'), comedian Samay Raina and the organizers of the show *India's Got Latent*, following the alleged use of abusive language during the episode. The complaint stems from an incident in which Ranveer Allahbadia posed a highly controversial 'would you rather' question involving the sexual relationships of parents. This remark, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, led to a wave of criticism against the show’s creators and participants.
The episode also featured Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija alongside Samay Raina. Viewers were quick to react to clips from the show. One comment on social media stated, "Freedom of speech is a double-edged sword. Sadly, sometimes it allows for the propagation of mediocrity and shock value masquerading as content." Another user wrote, "People show their true colors on shows like these. Ranveer has not done anything that he is not comfortable with. Just that his mask has slipped today and people can see his real face." A comment on X (formerly Twitter) called the remarks a "sick perversion," while Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned Allahbadia’s comments, calling them "perverted." She emphasized that such behavior should not be normalized, despite the applause the remark received from the audience. "This isn’t creative. It’s perverse. And we can’t normalize perverse behavior as cool," she added.
So far, neither Ranveer Allahbadia nor the other participants have responded to the controversy. In an interview, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the issue, saying, "I have heard about it but haven’t seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has the freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others." He further added that actions that violate societal norms should be deemed unacceptable and appropriate action should follow. The complaint, lodged with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women's Commission, calls for strict action against those involved in the incident. The controversial moment occurred during an episode of Samay Raina's show India’s Got Latent which went viral after Allahbadia’s question. It led to a strong backlash across social media, with many users calling for consequences. In other developments, Ranveer Allahbadia, known for his podcast Beer Biceps , was awarded the 'Disruptor of the Year' award at the National Creators Award in Delhi last year, which was presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
