New Law Enforced: Driving Without Insurance to Cost More, Fuel Stations to Deny Service
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Now driving without valid third-party insurance is going to be even more difficult. According to the new rules, it will now be mandatory to show valid insurance even for filling petrol or diesel in vehicles. Not only this, insurance documents will also have to be shown for FASTag. This means that now FASTag will also have to be linked to the third-party insurance policy. Without insurance proof, neither fuel will be available nor other facilities can be availed. If someone is caught driving without insurance, he may also have to pay a heavy fine.
The government has made it mandatory to show proof of vehicle insurance for purchasing fuel, obtaining FASTag and pollution and license certificates.
Mandatory third-party insurance
Third-party insurance is mandatory for all vehicles in India, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Whether you have a car or a bike-scooter, it is necessary to have insurance. Now driving without third-party insurance on Indian roads is illegal and can also attract a fine. Third-party insurance protects against damage caused to a third party by your vehicle. If you are involved in an accident, your third-party insurance can cover the damage caused to the third party.
According to the Motor Vehicles Act, all vehicles plying on the road must have third-party insurance coverage. The government has also made it mandatory to link FASTag to a valid third-party insurance policy when purchasing new insurance. Now insurance proof will be checked before refueling vehicles at petrol pumps and this will often be checked through the FASTag system itself. Therefore, it is necessary to link insurance to FASTag as well.
