Major EPFO Rule Change: No More Employer Dependence for Employees

Update: 2025-03-06 11:31 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): EPFO has made several changes in the rules related to updating the profile of every member. With the new changes, EPF members can update their Aadhaar linked Universal Account Number along with personal details without uploading any documents.

If the UAN is validated through Aadhaar, EPF members can update their profile with personal information such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father or mother's name, marital status, spouse's name, date of joining and date of leaving, without uploading any documents. Earlier, members had to get approval from their employer to update their profile, which led to an average delay of about 28 days. According to a statement from the EPFO, about 45 per cent of the total 8 lakh correction requests received by the EPFO through employers in the financial year 2024-25 can now be approved by the members themselves, without the approval of the employer or the EPFO, but it is worth noting that if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, then employer approval will be required to make any update in the profile. However, members will have to link their Aadhaar and PAN to their EPF account for any update or withdrawal. If there is any discrepancy between EPF details and Aadhaar, then the approval may get delayed. In such a case, it may take a few weeks depending on the approval of the employer and EPFO.

To update EPF profile, first go to the portal of EPF's official website www.epfindia.gov.in. Then log in to the member portal by filling details like UAN number, password and captcha. After this, click on the 'Manage' option given above in the menu. Click on the option of 'Modify Basic Details'. After this, enter personal details as per your Aadhar card and submit. Track the process of profile update using the 'Track Request' option.
