Kohli Goes Galactic: 1001 IPL Fours & Sixes Rock the Record Books
Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): Virat Kohli, famous worldwide as the run machine, is giving the opposition bowlers a hard time with his aggressive batting for RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Even though RCB had to face defeat against Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, Virat has registered another record in his name.
Virat Kohli became the first player to hit 1000 fours and sixes in the history of the tournament. The Royal Challengers Bangalore veteran, who has played all 18 IPL seasons so far, achieved this feat during the 24th match of IPL 2025.
Kohli's record came in the fourth over of RCB's innings when he hit a towering six over long-on off DC skipper Axar Patel to reach the milestone of 1000 fours and sixes, which includes 721 fours and 280 sixes.
He remains on top of the all-time list for hitting most fours in IPL history and trails Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (282) for hitting most sixes.
Despite Kohli's historic achievement, KL Rahul stole the limelight with his unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, helping Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. At home, KL Rahul's batting helped DC reach the brink of victory, especially when DC were down to just 58 runs for 4 wickets while chasing a difficult target of 164.
Earlier, RCB scored 163 runs after a brilliant start from Phil Salt and Kohli. But the bowling of Delhi Capitals' spin duo Axar and Kuldeep Yadav put the brakes on the RCB batsmen in the middle overs.
While chasing the runs against RCB, KL Rahul was supported by Tristan Stubbs. Tristan Stubbs scored an unbeaten 38 off 23 balls. Rahul shared a record 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Which is the biggest partnership ever for Delhi Capitals. His innings included seven fours and six sixes. On the basis of this partnership, DC won in 17.5 overs with 13 balls to spare.
