Infant Sold for Rs 90,000 in Thane, Grandmother Fights Back and Rescues Child
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case has surfaced from Ulhasnagar, Thane district showcasing a grandmother’s unwavering love and courage. In a heart-wrenching incident, a six-day-old baby girl was allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 90,000. However, the infant’s grandmother, displaying immense determination and wisdom, stepped in to rescue the child.
The baby girl was born on January 22 to the Gaikwad family, residing in the Maratha section of Camp No. 4, Ulhasnagar. When the grandmother visited the hospital to see her granddaughter, she was shocked to find the infant missing. Upon confronting her son, Vishal, he admitted to selling the baby. Devastated but resolute, she pleaded with him to return the money and bring the baby back. When her pleas fell on deaf ears and she remained unaware of the buyer’s identity, she wasted no time and approached the Ulhasnagar Central Police Station to file a complaint.
Responding swiftly, the police registered a case against the baby’s parents, an intermediary woman, and the buyers. All those involved were arrested, and the baby was safely rescued. Authorities are now investigating the motive behind the sale and whether the family had engaged in similar activities previously. The incident highlights not just a grave crime but also the power of a grandmother’s love and determination to protect her family.
