Madhya Pradesh (The Uttam Hindu): In a startling turn of events, Income Tax officials conducting raids in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh uncovered not only black money but also four crocodiles in a pond within the premises of a property linked to former BJP MLA Harvansh Singh Rathore. The raids which began last Sunday were conducted on allegations of tax evasion in the bidi business of Rathore's associate businessman Rajesh Kesarwani. Rathore, a prominent leader in the Sagar district and a former MLA elected in 2013, has a history of political influence with his father Harnam Singh Rathore having served as a minister in the state.

During the raid on Friday, officials discovered the crocodiles in a pond built on the premises. The Madhya Pradesh Forest Force Chief, Asim Srivastava confirmed the presence of the reptiles and said they had been rescued under the Wildlife Protection Act. Their health is being assessed and a case has been registered. However, Srivastava refrained from disclosing the exact location where the crocodiles were found.

The IT department has reportedly uncovered tax evasion amounting to ₹155 crore so far with ₹140 crore linked to Rathore. Additionally, ₹3 crore in cash, gold and silver have been recovered during the raids. Rathore, who also engages in the construction business is now under scrutiny for these alarming discoveries. The unexpected presence of crocodiles has added an unusual twist to the case with authorities expanding their investigation to address both financial and wildlife-related violations.
