IMD Alerts North India: Dense Fog to Persist Over Delhi, UP, Haryana, Punjab

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi woke up to a thick layer of dense fog on Monday, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for dense to very dense fog across the National Capital Region (NCR). The conditions have severely impacted travel with reduced visibility causing delays and cancellations of several trains at New Delhi Railway Station. The IMD has also extended the orange alert to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab where similar foggy conditions prevail. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh due to persistent fog and cold weather conditions.

Thunderstorms Expected in the Northeast and Southern India

Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Uttar Pradesh Weather Update

In Uttar Pradesh, dense to very dense fog is expected at isolated locations, with surface visibility potentially dropping to as low as 0–50 meters on Monday, January 13. The IMD forecasts dry weather for both the western and eastern divisions of the state today. Travelers across the affected regions are advised to exercise caution as foggy conditions and cold weather persist.
