Oreo the Dog 'Pulls the Trigger'—Memphis Man Shot in Freak Acciden

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A bizarre and shocking incident occurred in Memphis, Tennessee, when a man was accidentally shot by his own dog, Oreo. The shooting, which has attracted global attention, took place while the man was lying in bed with his girlfriend. Oreo, the pet dog, jumped onto the bed, and its foot landed on a pistol that was kept on the bed, causing the weapon to discharge. The bullet struck the man in the thigh, and he is currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.

The police have confirmed that the shooting was an accident. They explained that the dog’s paw got stuck in the trigger, which caused the gun to fire. Authorities have stressed the potential dangers of keeping firearms in accessible places, especially in households with pets.

While gun-related accidents are common in the U.S., incidents involving animals triggering firearms are rare. A similar incident occurred two years ago in Kansas when a German Shepherd stepped on a hunting rifle, leading to a fatal shooting. Additionally, in 2018, a 51-year-old man was shot by his pet Pitbull-Labrador mix, further highlighting the risks of keeping firearms around pets.

Speaking to Fox 13, the victim’s girlfriend described Oreo as a very playful dog who often jumps around. She acknowledged the oversight of not locking the pistol’s trigger and admitted that this may have contributed to the accident.

This incident serves as an important reminder of firearm safety, particularly in homes with pets. While rare, it underscores the risks of failing to take proper precautions. The man’s unfortunate accident highlights the need for better awareness and care when handling firearms around animals.
