Farmer Dies After 10-Month Protest at Khanauri Border; Dallewal in Critical Condition

Khanauri (The Uttam Hindu): The farmers' protest at the Khanauri border against the central government continues with demands such as MSP (Minimum Support Price) at the forefront. Amidst the ongoing agitation, a tragic incident has come to light. Jagga Singh, an 80-year-old farmer who had been steadfastly protesting at the Khanauri border for the past 10 months passed away following a stroke.

Farmer leader Lakhwinder Singh Aulakh confirmed that Jagga Singh, a resident of Godara Bajakhana in Faridkot district fell ill due to a paralysis attack and succumbed to his condition during treatment at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. His body will be brought back to the Khanauri border after which his final rites will be conducted in his village. Jagga Singh is survived by five sons and a daughter.

Aulakh highlighted that many farmers have lost their lives during the 11-month-long protest. He noted that two farmers had previously committed suicide at the Shambhu border and over 700 farmers had lost their lives during the Delhi agitation. Despite these sacrifices, the central and state governments remain unresponsive with no compensation, government jobs or loan waivers provided to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, the health of prominent farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal continues to deteriorate raising further concerns among the protesting farmers.
