New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the Delhi Assembly elections today during a press conference at 2 PM. The elections for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats are expected to take place in February and are likely to be conducted in a single phase. Once again, a triangular contest is anticipated among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.

Voter List and Statistics

On Monday, the Election Commission released the final voter list for Delhi which shows a total of 1.55 crore voters eligible to participate in this election. Of these 83,49,645 are male voters while 71,73,952 are female voters. This marks an increase of 7.26 lakh voters compared to the 2020 assembly elections and 3.10 lakh voters compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2020, there were 1.47 crore voters while during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the number stood at 1.52 crore.

Voter List Controversy

The updated voter list comes amid allegations of voter name deletions. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently held a press conference accusing the BJP of submitting applications to remove names from the voter roll. However, the Election Commission has now finalized the list addressing the concerns raised during the controversy.

Stay tuned for the official announcement of election dates and further updates on this crucial event in Delhi's political landscape.
