Delhi air pollution: Air quality improves, GRAP-3 restrictions lifted

Update: 2025-02-03 15:14 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi's air quality has improved with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping below 300, resulting in a reduction in the spread of pollutants. Due to this improvement, the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) has decided to lift the restrictions that were previously imposed under Phase 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), offering relief to the residents.

An official statement confirmed that the reduction in pollution levels is attributed to favorable weather conditions, leading to positive changes in the city's air quality. The removal of restrictions marks a significant development as the AQI dropping below 300 has made a notable difference.

The restrictions under GRAP Phase 3 had included a ban on non-essential construction activities and hybrid classes for students up to Class V along with an option for online education for parents and students. Additionally, vehicle use was restricted with bans on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles, although exemptions were provided for people with disabilities. The use of non-essential diesel-powered medium commercial vehicles was also restricted during this phase. The GRAP system plays a crucial role by categorizing air quality into four phases during the winter months, enabling targeted actions to control and mitigate pollution.
