Cold Wave to Grip Nation Again: Snowfall in Hills, Rain Alert in 6 States

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Severe cold is going to knock once again in many states of North India including Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of snowfall in hilly areas and rain in many states for the next few days.

Snowfall and rain in Western Himalayan region: According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall at many places in the Western Himalayan region till January 23. Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh may also receive rain on January 22. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain and thunder in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh on January 22.

Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh: Light to moderate rain or snowfall is expected at some places in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the weather will remain dry thereafter till January 27. According to the local weather office, Hansa and Kaza recorded 2.5 cm and 0.8 cm snowfall respectively.

Cold and fog in Delhi-NCR: Cold is expected to increase in Delhi-NCR after January 23. Fog is likely at most places in the morning on January 24, for which a yellow alert has been issued. Dense fog may also occur at some places. The maximum temperature here is likely to be around 18 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 8 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures above normal in Haryana, Punjab: Minimum temperatures were above normal in most parts of Haryana and Punjab on Tuesday. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees above normal. Ambala in Haryana recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures were also above normal in Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Narnaul, Faridabad and Gurugram.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of eight degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. Ludhiana recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, while Patiala recorded a minimum temperature of 9.1 degrees. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur and Mohali also recorded above normal minimum temperatures. However, Bathinda and Faridkot experienced a cold night with the minimum temperatures settling at 6.4 degrees and 6.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
