Budget Session Begins Today: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Economic Survey

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Budget Session of Parliament begins today with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set to present the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-26 on February 1. Ahead of the budget, she will present the Economic Review for 2024-25 today, offering an assessment of the country’s economic performance in the current financial year. This review highlights the challenges facing the economy while also serving as a blueprint for reforms and future development.

Prepared under the leadership of Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran, the Economic Review provides insights into the state of the economy, sectoral developments and projections for the upcoming fiscal year. It is expected to address key concerns such as slow growth the depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar and weak consumer demand. Additionally, the report often introduces fresh perspectives on issues related to poverty alleviation, climate change, education, infrastructure and the financial sector.

This will be the second budget of the third term of the Narendra Modi-led government. The Budget Session will commence with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint meeting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The first phase of the session will continue until February 13 while the second phase is scheduled to begin on March 10 and conclude on April 4.
