Mahipalpur, Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A chilling incident of alleged gang rape has shaken the Mahipalpur area of Delhi, involving a British woman who had travelled to India after connecting with a local man on social media. Delhi Police have arrested two individuals, Kailash and Wasim, in connection with the case.

The victim, a British national, reportedly befriended Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara, Mayur Vihar East Delhi, through Instagram. Kailash, described as an avid social media user known for creating and posting reels, had been communicating with the woman for several months.

According to police reports, the woman, who had been travelling in Maharashtra and Goa, contacted Kailash and expressed a desire to meet. He allegedly persuaded her to come to Delhi, where she checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur on Tuesday evening.

Kailash, accompanied by his friend Wasim, a hotel employee, met the woman at the hotel. They reportedly consumed alcohol and food before entering the woman's hotel room. It is alleged that both men then sexually assaulted the woman without her consent.

"The accused were heavily intoxicated," a Delhi Police spokesperson stated. "During the interaction in the hotel room, they engaged in indecent behaviour with the victim."

The victim reportedly raised an alarm following the alleged assault, prompting Kailash to call Wasim back to the room in an attempt to pacify her. She spent the night in the hotel but sought medical attention at Fortis Hospital the following morning. The hospital authorities subsequently alerted the police.

"The victim underwent a medical examination at Fortis Hospital, which led to the registration of a case," a senior police official confirmed. "Vasant Kunj (North) police station arrested Kailash and Wasim in the afternoon."

Both accused have been produced in court and taken into police remand for further investigation. Delhi Police have also informed the British High Commission about the incident.

The case has raised concerns about the safety of foreign tourists in India, particularly those who connect with individuals through social media platforms. The incident underscores the potential dangers of online interactions and the importance of exercising caution when meeting strangers.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are gathering further evidence to build a strong case against the accused. The focus remains on providing support to the victim and ensuring that justice is served.
