Amritsar Police Post Targeted in Grenade Attack, Babbar Khalsa Takes Credit

Update: 2025-01-10 06:04 GMT

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): The wave of explosions targeting police posts in Punjab continues unabated. In the latest incident, a grenade attack was reported at the Gumtala police post in Amritsar. The grenade reportedly landed on a police officer's car and exploded as the netting around the post prevented it from hitting its intended target.

A terrorist and gangster associated with the Babbar Khalsa organization identified as Happy Pasia has claimed responsibility for the attack. Pasia in a social media post alleged the attack was an act of revenge against police actions accusing authorities of harassing his family and conducting fake encounters. He also warned of more such attacks in the future.

However, police have denied the claim of a grenade attack attributing the explosion to a car carburetor malfunction. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also refuted reports of an explosion near the Gumtala police post while locals insisted they heard a loud blast in the area.

At the time of the incident very few personnel were present at the post with most officers deployed elsewhere. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play and are conducting further investigations.

History of Attacks

Happy Pasia, a known terrorist and gangster linked to Babbar Khalsa International has been involved in several recent attacks in Amritsar including grenade assaults on police stations and the placement of IEDs near police posts. Pasia also reportedly conducted surveillance of a senior police officer’s residence.

December Attack Unveiled Narco-Terror Links

In late December 2024, a grenade attack targeting a police station in Amritsar led to the arrest of two individuals, Gurjeet Singh and Baljeet Singh which uncovered a narco-terror module. The ongoing incidents have raised concerns over growing security threats in Punjab prompting intensified police investigations and increased vigilance.
