Las Vegas (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking revelation Las Vegas police reported that Matthew Livelsberger, the decorated soldier responsible for the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel used ChatGPT as part of his planning. The 37-year-old who tragically fatally shot himself nearly a week after the incident did not intend to harm anyone else, according to his writings.

Police investigations into Livelsberger’s ChatGPT searches uncovered queries about explosive targets the velocity of ammunition rounds and the legality of fireworks in Arizona.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department described the use of generative AI in this case as a "game-changer" and expressed concern over its potential misuse. He also noted that this marks the first known instance in the U.S. where ChatGPT was used to aid in building a device for such an attack.

In response, OpenAI the company behind ChatGPT stated that the tool is designed to refuse harmful or illegal instructions and only provided publicly available information during Livelsberger’s queries. OpenAI has pledged to cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.

Launched in 2022, ChatGPT is part of a suite of user-friendly AI tools developed by the San Francisco-based startup OpenAI accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Unlike previous AI models ChatGPT is designed to be more intuitive raising both the possibilities and risks of its widespread use.
