Advisory for Android and iPhone Users: Stay Alert About These Two Key Features

Update: 2025-04-02 04:25 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The National Security Agency (NSA) has issued a warning for Android and iPhone users, particularly those using secure messaging apps at work. The focus is on Signal with the advisory pointing out two key features that could potentially compromise your security.

According to a Forbes report the NSA is not concerned with app vulnerabilities but rather with user behavior. A few small mistakes could lead to big risks and the NSA is urging users to adjust their settings to avoid problems. Here’s what you need to know.

Two Features to Be Aware Of: Linked Devices and Group Invite Links

1. Linked Devices: A Double-Edged Sword

The Linked Devices feature allows users to sync messages across multiple devices for a smoother communication experience. However, this feature also opens the door for hackers. The NSA warns that cybercriminals could use it to create a duplicate account on another device, gaining unauthorized access to your messages. To protect your privacy the NSA suggests checking the app regularly and unlinking any unfamiliar devices.

2. Group Invite Links: Easy but Risky

The NSA also highlights the Group Invite Links feature, which makes adding new members to a group easier. However, it also comes with a security risk: sensitive conversations could accidentally be shared with the wrong people. To address this, the NSA recommends disabling the group invite links in your settings. Unlike WhatsApp, where only admins can add new members, Signal allows users to turn off the invite links, providing a safer option.

So, What Now?

To improve your security, make sure to review your settings, unlink any unknown devices, and disable group invite links. Though these changes might seem small, they can greatly enhance your privacy and protect your messages from potential threats.

Stay aware, adjust your settings, and keep your conversations secure!
