Jhabal (The Uttam Hindu): In a tragic incident in Lalu Ghuman village, located in the Tarn Taran assembly constituency, an unidentified assailant opened fire indiscriminately during a spiritual function intended for the peace of a local woman. Partap Singh, the newly appointed Sarpanch of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was killed in the attack, while two others, Budh Singh and Bhagwant Singh, were injured.

The shooter, who arrived on a motorcycle, fled the scene after opening fire. As the crowd reacted, they threw bricks at the assailant, one of which struck him on the head, causing the cloth tied around his head and face to fall off. Despite this, the gunman managed to escape, and his identity remains unknown.

The incident occurred as Sarpanch Partap Singh was leaving Gurdwara Baba Kharak Singh after attending the last prayers for Veer Kaur, the wife of villager Mahinder Singh, who had passed away the previous day. The assailant fired five rounds, two of which struck Singh, leading to his immediate death. The police from Jhabal police station arrived shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation into the matter. Partap Singh had been elected unopposed as the Sarpanch from Lalu Ghuman and was a key AAP leader in the area.
