AAP Files ED Complaint Against Pravesh Verma, Alleges Cash Distribution Ahead of Elections
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi politics has been ignited by allegations of cash distribution ahead of the assembly elections. AAP MP Sanjay Singh has filed a formal complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against BJP leader Pravesh Verma, accusing him of distributing ₹1,100 to women voters in envelopes at his official residence in New Delhi. AAP’s Chief Minister Atishi alleged that women from slums were called to Verma’s government bungalow, their voter IDs were checked, and they were handed cash in envelopes. She demanded immediate action by the ED, CBI, and Delhi Police, while releasing photographs as evidence.
Responding to the allegations, Pravesh Verma defended his actions, stating that the money was distributed through his family’s long-established organization, Rashtriya Swabhiman Sanstha, which has been aiding the needy for decades. Verma highlighted his organization’s history of charitable work, including building homes for earthquake victims in Gujarat, supporting martyrs’ families after the Kargil War, and providing assistance to underprivileged women. Verma also took a jab at the AAP government, stating that while he is distributing cash transparently to help those in need, AAP leaders have distributed liquor across Delhi.
Verma further countered AAP by accusing the party of failing to fulfill its promises in Punjab, where CM Arvind Kejriwal had pledged ₹1,000 per month to women. Verma claimed that three years after the promise, no payments have been made. He also released a video of Delhi women criticizing AAP’s governance, questioning why they should trust promises now when none were fulfilled in the last decade. The controversy has intensified the political battle as the Delhi elections approach.
