5,500+ Fake Orders and Rs 50 Crore Down the Drain: Myntra Targeted by Bengaluru Scammers

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Myntra has recently filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police after losing Rs 1.1 crore due to fraudulent orders placed throughout the city. According to media inputs, scammers exploited the e-commerce platform’s refund system, tricking Myntra out of Rs 50 crore in total, with 5,529 of these fraudulent orders coming from Bengaluru.

The scammers would place bulk orders for high-end branded shoes, clothes, accessories, and jewelry, pay for the items, and then claim that some of the products were missing or incorrect upon delivery. After raising a complaint on Myntra's app or website, they would receive refunds for the missing or faulty items. For example, if a person ordered 10 pairs of branded shoes and received only five, they would claim the missing five pairs and get a refund for them. Similarly, some fraudsters would order clothes and complain about mismatched sizes or colors, requesting refunds for the items they were dissatisfied with, a police officer explained.

Myntra's enforcement officer, Sardar MS, told the Times of India that the fraud was uncovered during an audit. He confirmed that Myntra had planned to file a complaint for the nationwide losses caused by these fraudulent orders, but the police advised them to proceed with a complaint based on the Bengaluru cases. Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police suspect that a gang from Rajasthan is behind the scam and have launched an investigation into the matter.
